“You’re Funny, Mister”  8.5″x24.5″ Fabric Art, Leather Pyrography and Iron Armature

About The Piece:
A gray, rectangular metal armature with round base, wrapped with a hand drawn image of a snickering African American girl on leather attached to a woven cloth. This sculpture features the hand drawn image of a snickering young farm girl wearing a shabby dress and staring into the camera of a photographer at a time when cameras were not a household item. I am using the hard iron frame to indicate the harshness of the times with the circular base representing the cyclical nature of the tenant farming condition. By using the stamped, woven fabric to house the leather image I indicate the roughness of the farming life.
