Story: “Willie with the BIG Hands”

Willie is a young African American boy at home with his parents. They love to dance and practice in their bedroom when Willie is in bed. Willie sneaks out of bed and sits inside his parent’s closet and watched them twirl and spin with Willie’s mother’s full outfit makes him imagine her flying. They pretend that Willie is not hiding and watching from the closet until he falls asleep. That’s when Willie’s Mother gently picks him up and tucks Willie into his bed. But, Willie has a great imagination, especially since that one time that his mother slipped off one of her long evening gloves and flung it at him. That gloves landed just right on his Willie’s curly, bouncy afro and drooped softly over his eyes. Since that moment, all of Willie’s dreams became about flying, like his mother when Willie’s dad lifted her high in the air and spun them around and up and down through the bedroom dance floor.
